This fall, Augusta-based Medical College of Georgia welcomed a medical class of 230 students, the largest in the school’s history. Answering a call by the American Association of Medical Colleges for a 30 percent increase in U.S. medical school enrollment by 2015, MCG has almost met that goal in just three years.
The new MCG Medical Partnership with the University of Georgia made the spike in class size possible. The partnership is home to 40 medical students on the UGA campus in Athens. Among these physicians-in-training is Hammad Aslam. Aslam was set to start medical school in Augusta in the fall of 2009 when a car accident almost took his life.
